Sobriety Checkpoints

The Labor Day Holiday Weekend is sneaking up fast. Another thing that will be sneaking up on you in Region 8...Sobriety Checkpoints. Now some may rail against this arguing that it is inconvenient or an unneccesary violation of your rights. There are lots of folks who buy into that argument. But let me tell you this.

If stopping someone at a checkpoint for five minutes saves lives...I'll take the inconvenience every time. Here are some pointers if you plan on celebrating this weekend. First, designate a sober driver and give them the keys

If you don't have a driver, call someone to pick you up. Use those cell phones to report drunken drivers. And if you know someone who has been drinking too much and plans to drive, take their keys and help get them home.

Finally, if you are sober and are stopped at a checkpoint, thank the officers for their effort. They are working hard out there to make this a safer and a Better Region 8.

I don't know if I am writing on the right spot on here or not, but I am concerned about the stuff that goes on on spring river on the holiday weekends. There was a stabbing envolveing 5 people at Mini Island camp ground this memoral weekend and a shooting, not to mention what goes on we don't see. Something needs to be done about this. My suggestion is patroling the rivers. something has to be done. I wouldn't dare take my children on holiday weekends. what are families suppose to do? I thought I might get so feed back from ya'll. let me know....

[Protect Our Children]

I am a very concerned parent. I've recently come across some information on terrorists plans to attack America's schools.(cnnheadlinenews.com go to Glenn Beck then click onthe 4 day series, "The Perfect Day") Osama bin ladan has been givin religios permission to kill 4 million americans, 2 million of them children. In the past month seventeen school buses have come up missing in Houston, Texas along with over a thousand school radios stolen in the nw states. A school bus was found on fire in either Seattle or New Jersey I'm not sure.According to the news report witnesses say a man walked away unharmed. Nothing on who the man was. The FBI found during raids on al quaeda safe houses video tape with mock attacks on schools and were yelling their orders out in english. Also found floor plans and blue prints on schools in America. Osama bin ladan has stated what was done in Baslin, Russia will be done a hundred fold in America. They are targeting schools that have a extensive lag time before 911 or swat teams reach the site. The terrorists are looking for schools that have boys to young to fight and girls old enough to rape. Our Government knows these things they have seen the videos for themselves in full things they can not show on tv and are doing all they can to not let it happen. But we as parents,as a community, as a country need to do all we can to not allow our schools to be desirable targets. Some small things can be done to help our schools to not be targets, local law enforcement officers could come and do their paper work in the schools if the schools don't have the funds to hire one. Invite them for lunch at the schools. Anything to show we have security in our schools. Terrorists are looking for easy targets if we have armed officers coming and going in our schools, we could detour the terrorists. They want to create chaos. If this were to happen it would destroy us physcologically and economically. WE MUST do all we can to protect our children. Why this is not something that has been discussed on the news is unbelievable to me. I encourage KAIT 8 news to put this on the news in some way shape or form to get people involved in getting their schools protected. If these terrorists get in our schools they are not coming out and either are our children!!!! Knowledge is power. Get involved. WE MUST protect our children!
