If you've ever had a family member suffer a heart attack, you know how important CPR really is. At the age of 31, my dad had a massive heart attack and if it hadn't been for someone administering CPR, he would not be here today. My friends at Medic One reminded me October is Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month. Here are some amazing statistics. Every year in the United States, emergency personnel treat almost 383 thousand out of hospital sudden cardiac arrests. That's more than a thousand a day. And less than 12 percent of those victims survive. When someone performs CPR, their chance of survival can double or triple. You can learn how to administer CPR in less than 30 minutes. 12 states now require CPR training as a requirement to graduate high school. Arkansas is one of those states. But there are still too many people who don't have this training. I've been through the training myself and it is very simple -- nothing to be afraid of. Get training for you and your family. Learn CPR, you could save a life and saving lives makes this A Better Region 8.
