If you live in Arkansas, you will have the opportunity to vote for or against a half-cent sales tax increase on November 6th. This proposed tax increase would pay for the construction that is already in progress on four-lane highways across the state and would last 10 years. The proposed increase is called the Constitutional Amendment Issue #1. It's projected to generate $700 million, and the increase would not apply to groceries, medicine or gas. Like many of you, I am not excited about paying more taxes. Just one look at a sales receipt and it's tough to imagine forking out even more in taxes, but I have to say I believe this particular tax is something we desperately need especially in Region 8. Our community is growing so quickly, it's become difficult for our governments to keep up with the need to expand and improve our roads. Better roads will be better for all of us. Hopefully, the goal will be safer roads and this will contribute to even more economic development for our area. I encourage you to learn all you can between now and November 6th about Constitutional Amendment Issue #1 and make a good decision. Voting for this Amendment will help make this a Better Region 8.

Why does Region 8 news change the ABC scheduled programming of Ohio State vs Purdue football to cover Auburn vs Vanderbilt. There are other games people are interested in besides the Holier than thou SEC.
